About 2048
2048 is one of the most popular number puzzles in the world. The board has 16 squares, and every time you move, all the tiles slide together. When two tiles with the same number bump into each other they join into one tile worth double: 2 and 2 make 4, 4 and 4 make 8, and so on all the way up to 2048.
After every move a new tile showing 2 or 4 appears in an empty square, so the board fills up quickly if you don't plan ahead. The goal is to make the 2048 tile, and after that you can keep going for 4096 and try to beat your own record.
It's a great game for anyone from about 7 up: you learn to double numbers (2, 4, 8, 16, 32...) without even noticing, and you practise planning, patience and thinking a move ahead. This light version runs on any computer or phone with no download or sign-up, and your best score is saved on your device.
How to play

- When two tiles with the same number meet, they join into one tile and you score points.
- After every move a new tile with 2 or 4 appears.
- Keep going until you reach 2048. The game ends when the board is full and no move is possible.

Tips to win
- Pick one corner (say, bottom left) and always keep your biggest number there.
- Use only two or three directions most of the time, and avoid the one that pulls your big number out of its corner.
- Line up the row with your corner from biggest to smallest, so the joins happen one after another.
- Don't rush: look at the board before each move and see what you can join.
