Color Memory

About Color Memory

Color Memory is a musical memory game, a simple take on the classic follow-the-pattern toy. There are 4 big pads in red, green, blue and yellow, and each color plays its own note. The game lights up the colors one after another while you watch and listen, then you tap the same colors in exactly the same order.

Every time the pattern is repeated correctly, one new color is added to the end, so the challenge grows little by little. If you forget, the game calmly shows which color was next and how many you remembered, with nothing upsetting. There are two speeds: slow for younger children and normal for older ones.

Each color also has its own shape (circle, triangle, square and star), so children who find some colors hard to tell apart can play easily too. The game trains short-term memory, attention and listening skills, and it runs on computers, phones and tablets with no download.

How to play

  1. Choose a speed: slow or normal.
  2. When you see "Watch…", look at the colors that light up and listen to their notes.
  3. When you see "Your turn!", tap the same colors in the same order.
  4. Get the pattern right and one new color is added in the next round.
  5. Keep going to reach the longest pattern you can remember and beat your record.

Controls

KeyboardNumber keys 1 to 4 or the arrow keys. They go round clockwise: ↑ or 1 is red (top left), → or 2 is green (top right), ↓ or 3 is blue (bottom right), ← or 4 is yellow (bottom left). Each color shows its key.

Tips to win

  • Quietly say the color or shape as it lights up: "red, star, blue…".

  • Split a long pattern into small groups of 3 colors.
  • Stay on slow speed until you reach 6 colors, then try normal.

Color Memory: questions and answers

What age is this color memory game for?

It suits children from 5, and the slow speed is made especially for little ones. Grown-ups enjoy it too once the pattern gets long, and it's a fun one for the whole family to see who remembers the longest pattern.

Does a pattern memory game really help memory?

Yes. Repeating a pattern that slowly gets longer is a well-known exercise for working memory and focus, and it helps children remember instructions and steps at school.

My child is color blind. Can they play?

Yes. Every color has a different shape (● ▲ ■ ★) and its own note, so they can play by shapes and sounds without relying on color alone.

Can I play with the keyboard?

Yes, use the number keys 1 to 4 or the arrow keys. On a computer, each color shows its key in the corner.
