Head to Head Football

About Head to Head Football

Head to Head Football is a one-on-one soccer match between two players with giant heads and tiny bodies. You watch the pitch from the side: a goal at each end, a cheering crowd in the stands and a bouncy ball that rattles off the crossbar. You start on the left and try to put the ball in the goal on the right, while your rival tries to score in yours.

Kicking is more than a button press. Your leg swings, and if it meets the ball in the middle of the swing the shot flies harder and higher. That big head is useful too: jump into a dropping ball to head it forward, or stand in front of your goal to block a shot. Every goal gets confetti and a roar from the crowd, and the match ends after 60 or 90 seconds, whichever you pick.

Play the computer on three levels: Easy suits younger players and first-timers, while Medium and Hard defend, attack and leap for high balls. Or play a brother, sister or friend on the same computer, one on each side of the keyboard. If the match ends level, it goes to a golden goal: whoever scores next wins.

How to play

  1. Choose to play the computer or a friend, then pick the level, your kit colour and the match time.
  2. After the whistle the ball drops from above the centre spot. Run to it with the arrows or A and D.
  3. Press Space or X to kick the ball forward towards the goal on the right.
  4. Jump with Up or W to head a high ball or block a shot coming at your goal.
  5. Whoever has more goals when time runs out wins; a draw goes to a golden goal.

Controls

KeyboardSolo: arrows or A/D to run, Up or W to jump, Space or X to kick. In 2-player mode Player 1 is always on the left and uses A/D to run, W to jump and S to kick; Player 2 is on the right and uses the arrow keys ← → to run, ↑ to jump and ↓ to kick.
TouchUse ◀ ▶ at the bottom left to run and the Jump and Kick buttons on the right; you can press several at once. On phones and tablets you play the computer, because 2-player mode needs a keyboard.

Tips to win

  • Don't shoot when the ball is pressed against your rival. Step back and let it roll a little so your shot can loop over them.
  • When the ball is high, wait under it and jump at the last moment so your head sends it forward.
  • When your rival has the ball, stay between the ball and your own goal.
  • The middle of the leg swing gives the strongest kick, so press kick when the ball is about one step away.

Head to Head Football: questions and answers

How do two people play this football game on one computer?

Choose “A friend (2 players)”. Player 1 on the left uses A, D, W and S; Player 2 on the right uses the arrow keys. Each of you kicks with your down key (S or ↓).

Can I play it on a phone?

Yes, with on-screen buttons to run, jump and kick. Turn the phone sideways for the best view. On phones you play the computer only, because 2-player mode needs a keyboard.

Is the computer hard to beat?

On Easy it is slow and makes plenty of mistakes, so you can beat it quickly. Medium and Hard are faster and defend well, and the game counts how many times you have beaten each level.

What is a golden goal?

If time runs out with the score level, the match carries on for up to 30 seconds and the first goal wins straight away. If nobody scores, it ends as a draw.
